On Wednesday, June 21, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department announced that the academic year for first-year students enrolled for undergraduate (UG) courses from The Government Arts and Science colleges in Tamil Nadu will begin classes for first year students on July 3, 2023.
The Higher Education Department has said that counselling would be conducted for eligible candidates until June 30, 2023. There are 1,07,299 seats in 163 Government Arts and Science colleges for which counselling is being conducted at present.
So far, 75,811 candidates have been admitted. The rule of reservation would be followed for admission to the rest of the seats, the department added in a release.

Induction Classes
“The induction classes are important and mandatory for all colleges. Students in government colleges mainly come from economically backward sections. For the induction classes, colleges have been asked to invite academicians, lawyers and authors to come and interact with the students and give them proper guidance about their future,” said an official from the directorate of collegiate education (DCE).
Online Applications
Online Applications for Admission to 163 Government Arts and Science colleges were received from 08.05.2023 to 19.05.2023. Over three lakh students had applied for courses in Arts and Science colleges of Tamil Nadu.
